Fine tuning my Brain Helper smoothie recipe!

So I have answered the cries of my children to cut down the volume of the daily smoothie, and here are the results of my efforts... the children are thrilled and so am I. Split this smoothie between 2 young kids and drink one yourself, parents! If my family is normal, guaranteed the kids will argue and whine less, cope better and be happier... and so will you!

Modified Brain Helper Smoothie
2 large frozen strawberries
1-2 Tbsp frozen saskatoon berries or blueberries
2 slices banana
1 1/2 Tbsp orange juice
1 Tbsp liquid calcium supplement
1 tsp Nutrasea lemon Omega 3 (or 1 Tbsp Udo's DHA oil)
1 tsp probiotic powder
6 drops vitamin E
1/2 B6 tablet ground up
3 drops GSE (grapefruit seed extract)
1/8 to 1/4 tsp stevia for sweetness, or whatever sweetener you like if any

  1. I read with great interest your postings on medhelp.org. If you purchase your ingredients for a smoothie online, where do you buy all the ingredients?

    Thank you.
(PS I had to use anon because I couldn't get the other options to work :()

  2. Hi, thanks for your note about medhelp! I feel so much for all the parents out there, and think so many could be helped with diet changes and supplements... not as easy, but SOOO worth it!

I get my ingredients from our local bulk/health supplement store (Nutters), but the Omega 3 oils, both Udos and Nutrasea are available for a good price online from supplementscanada.ca. Nutrasea works out cheaper than Udo's per serving and adds a nice lemony zip to the smoothie.

I get big bulk bags of frozen strawberries and blueberries from Costco, and pick saskatoons in season and freeze them. For calcium I use calcium citrate liquid, it adds a similar consistency as yogurt would to the smoothie, and comes in lots of yummy fruit flavours.

I recently started adding Gabba and L-Theanine to the smoothie, both for mental calmness. I gave my kids a "break" from their smoothie for the Thanksgiving long weekend, and by the third day they were irritable, argumentative and wanting to watch more tv rather than playing... you'd think I would learn! The key for being consistent for me is to prep the fruit and the powders into little individual containers in advance for a week or two, then I can get it all into the magic bullet in less than a minute each morning, rather than grinding up pills every day.

Good luck, it is SO worth it when you see the results, it is the difference for your own sanity and they are so much happier!
